An elevated oasis on a mystical plateau, Lijiang is an old worldly destination unlike any other.

Located in the northwest of China’s Yunnan Province, Lijiang lies 8,530 feet above sea level, taking in the most breathtaking vistas of the southern Himalayan Mountains. Surrounding Lijiang, rivers flow from the nearby mountains down into deep gorges, providing a spectacular natural landscape that can only be seen to be believed.

Home to the Naxi people, this peaceful city is a cultural melting pot, influenced by its proximity to Tibet. A visit to the Old Town is a must, where travellers can immerse themselves in the cuisine, crafts and traditions of the local people.

For a unique experience, the region is home to the ethnic Mosuo women – known as the last Kingdom of Women – an ancient matriarchal society who inhabit the area around Lugu Lake. Festivities take place year round, making it an ideal addition to any Lijiang vacation.
