With the current climate of uncertainty we find ourselves in, we wanted to share some of the best ideas getting around to help us keep calm among the chaos.
There’s never been a better time to get outside and do some exercise! Keeping active is the best way to stay healthy, but in times like this, the boost to mental health is an even bigger bonus. Even the gentlest exercise can bring benefits – from dancing around the living room, to a light walk outside in the sunshine – or getting around to the housework! Ten to 20 minutes a few times a day will keep your body moving and your mind at ease.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed when our inboxes, news feeds, radios, TV bulletins, newspapers and personal conversations are filled with negative news and persistent updates. Experts advise to give yourself a break from reading or watching media stories (particularly social media). Seek out no-screen time and introduce specific times of the day to step away from the constant news cycle. You’ll be guaranteed to find out what’s important without needing to stay constantly connected.
Daily meditation and mindfulness are great ways to keep calm. But it’s not always as easy as it sounds – particularly when there are additional worries filling your stream of consciousness at the moment. If you need a little help training your mind, there are lots of apps you can download (for free) to achieve your state of Zen. Try The Mindfulness App, Headspace or Calm for some of our top picks.
When times are tough, it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that personal luxuries are out of the question. But treating yourself doesn’t necessarily mean spending money on something fancy and new. Cook your favourite meal or order takeaway from your favourite restaurant (they need our support now more than ever), rewatch your favourite movie, or put on your favourite music and tune out from the rest of the noise.
