Set amid the towering Sierra Nevada Mountains, The Heidelberg Inn offers a touch of movie glamor and legend along with its amenities. Opened in 1928, the Inn was seen in many film during the 1930s and starred in such movies as "Road to Utopia." Clark Gable, Betty Grable, and others stayed at the Inn. Today, the Inn has been completely redone and updated. Relax at this storybook property featuring a four-sided fireplace for chilly winter nights. In the summer, June Lake is a great place to enjoy all your favorite outdoor activities, from boating to stargazing in the mountain air. A car is recommended to fully enjoy the area.
This valley surrounded by high mountain peaks has been dubbed the "Switzerland of California." The locale is most famous for its trout fishing, either still fishing the lakes from a boat or float tubing, or shore fishing in the many lakes and streams. Bait fishing is popular, as are spin casting with lures and fly fishing. The lakes are cool but swimming is possible in midsummer. Opportunities abound for rugged mountaineering and other climbing activities, bicycling, photography, bird watching, and more.
