Five kilometres from Hibberdene, on the lazy South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, lies a charming little resort that makes the most of its wonderful ocean-side position - Umzumbe Chalets.
Sit back and watch the dolphins and whales from your patio, relax around the pool, cook up a storm in the kitchen or take a brisk walk across the railway tracks to catch the sunshine on the beach, where lifesavers are on duty. Each of the two-storey, self-catering A-frame chalets is carefully positioned to ensure that it delivers a beautiful ocean view from its private patio. Kitchens are fitted with modern appliances, including a family-size fridge, oven and microwave, plus ceiling fans to cool you down on summer days. A daily cleaning service will free you up to concentrate on what you are here for: fun, sun and relaxation.
Lace up your boots and follow the 'Bosbok' hiking trail through indigenous forests teeming with wildlife. The area abounds with native bird species, exotic resident peacocks and guinea fowl, bushbuck, shy porcupines and dainty red and blue duiker. Boating and premium diving are also at your fingertips. The Wild Coast Sun is only an hour away, the fun-time Jolly Roger much closer, the nearby Selbourne Country Club has a decent course and, where the Mtwalume River meets the sea, there's a beautiful quiet lagoon, great for fishing and birdwatching. Further up the river are the Mtwalume Falls.
It's your holiday and Umzumbe Chalets do everything necessary to make sure it's one you'll never forget.
