On the left bank of the Chillón River sits the picturesque town of Canta. Just 65 miles northeast of Lima, Canta enjoys year-round warm weather and is home to raimondi, a native cactus species that can live for up to 100 years. Here, steep and narrow streets reveal grand, ancient houses with traditional two slope roofs. Nearby, explore Checta, featuring 450 rock engravings of animals, astral maps and more, about 1,500 years old. The neighboring town of Santa Rosa de Quives features pre-Inca archaeological remains and a cluster of blue lagoons, ideal for hikes and horseback rides.
