Only five minutes drive away is the village of Murrisk, where the annual pilgrimage of Croagh Patrick begins in July. County Mayo boasts many characterful villages, with various lively towns such as Castlebar and Ballina.
Local activities in the area include cliffside angling in Kilsallagh, deep sea fishing on Clew Bay, surfing at Carrownisky Beach and hill walking on the many mountains in the surrounding area. 2km away is the Atlantic Adventure Centre and 14km the well known Delphi Adventure Centre and Lodge. At the quay in Westport is Westport Country House Estate, where there is an animal park, various fun rides and the house set in beautiful grounds.
