Udaipur is a popular tourist destination renowned for its rich history, culture, picturesque scenery, and stunning palaces from the Rajput era. The city is surrounded by seven beautiful lakes and is often referred to as the City of Lakes. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Udaipur district and was the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency. It was founded in 1559 by Udai Singh II of the Sisodia Rajput clan when he moved his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur after Chittorgarh was attacked by Akbar. It remained the capital city until 1818 when it became a British princely state. After India gained independence in 1947, the Mewar province became a part of Rajasthan.
