Chateaurenon
Resort overview
The cottage sleeps four. It has been modernised, refurbished and equipped to UK household standards.
Its rustic appeal does not come from old-fashioned electricity and plumbing, which are right up-to-date, but from exposed beams and stonework.
Ground floor
Kitchen/Diner/Lounge area
We have tried to retain the French cottage feel to this room by keeping the old fireplace surround, but installing a modern wood-burning stove which warms the whole cottage if required in spring and autumn.
The lounge area, with sofa and chairs, leads to the well-planned kitchen area with built-in work surfaces and cupboards under and over. Appliances include automatic washing machine, gas cooker, microwave oven, fridge, kettle, filter coffee maker and toaster.
There is a plentiful supply of cutlery, crockery and kitchen utensils even a garlic press! The dining area is conveniently situated alongside the kitchen peninsular. One step up from here is a small hall, giving access to:
Bedroom One
A double-bedded room with built-in hanging space and shelving, and chest of drawers.
Bathroom
Bath with shower attachment, wash basin and built-in cupboard.
Separate WC
First floor
The original staircase (a bit steep and narrow, and therefore not suitable for the very elderly or for very young children) leads up from the lounge area to
Bedroom Two
This is a lovely light and airy room with exposed original chestnut roof timbers. It has two single beds, and a sofa. There are fitted cupboards and a chest of drawers.
All beds have duvets and pillows.
The cottage benefits from wireless internet access.
Outside
To the front of the house is a lawned area with flower beds. A lane runs to the side of the cottage.
The Orchard
A few steps away behind the cottage, has a barbecue area, with gas barbecue, garden table and chairs and sun (or shade) loungers.
For the serious sightseer and historian, we are located on the route of Richard the Lionheart with its wonderful chateaux, and tourist attractions such as Rocamadour, the Caves at Lascaux and Futuroscope are an easy day’s outing.
For the wine enthusiast, we are not too far from several regions, notably Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cahors, where you can sample and stock up with quality wines at reasonable prices.
For the keen shopper, there is the wonderful porcelain and enamel of Limoges, the basketwork for which our region is famous, and the many village markets held all year round.
For the gastronome, we have a Michelin two star restaurant close by, and several excellent local eateries where a three course meal will cost you all of 13 euros, and that includes wine.
For the sporting types, there is tennis, fishing and swimming at the lake at nearby Bussière Galant, together with a Velorail and treetop adventure trail and there are several other lakes a short drive away; kayaking on the Vienne, mountain bike trails and nature walks all round the region.
And for those who want to relax and enjoy the more gentle pace of yesteryear, unwind from the stresses and strains of modern life, there are sun loungers in the orchard and a selection of books to read.
As on-site proprietor I am on hand to give you information and advice on the area, the best boulangeries, the best value for money country restaurants and a host of other titbits of information.
