Accommodation: Shire has a comfortably furnished lounge with television. A fully equipped kitchen, including oven, fridge and microwave. A double bedroom with wash-hand basin. A single bedroom. Bathroom with shower over the bath. Both suites have views looking south over Derwentwater, and there are kitchen views to Skiddaw.
Shire Apartment at Derwent House in Cumbria is located in Portinscale, a small residential village, a mile outside Keswick on Derwentwater, at the centre of the Northern Lakes, an ideal base for touring, climbing and walking. In Portinscale there is a hotel with restaurant and the Farmer's Arms public house provides excellent food and the local ale.
Nearby activities include watersports, riding and pony trekking, as well as the ever increasingly popular sport of para-gliding. Whenever you visit this beautiful area the season will have its own particular colours and delights.
Keswick is only five minutes by car or some twelve minutes level walk, bridging the river Derwent and on a well defined path. There is a large selection of shops, an excellent supermarket and an abundance of eating houses. There are museums, parks, a 18 hole golf course at Threlkeld, swimming facilities and a cinema. There is a weekly Saturday market. A car is essential to fully explore all this beautiful area has to offer
