The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) occupies the northern and eastern reaches of Cyprus. English is considered a second language after Turkish, especially in the tourist centres. The currency is Turkish lira, meaning your well-earned money goes further here although Euros and Pound sterling are still widely accepted in many of the larger establishments. The area around Iskele has a beautiful 3km stretch of sandy beach lapped by the turquoise Mediterranean sea. The beach is bordered by a path, cycle path and running track and dotted with playgrounds and exercise equipment. Iskele is only a 10 minutes drive from Famagusta which in medieval times was the most famous city in Cyprus. Today the area boasts some of the most impressive medieval ruins anywhere in the world. The contrasting Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque is fascinating for its gothic cathedral exterior as it was once a church, but has since been transformed into a mosque on the inside. A walk through the walled city offers wonderful insight the history of the area. Salamis also nearby is home to some fantastically preserved Roman ruins, including statues, standing columns, theatre and baths. But, of course, the area is as famous for its spectacular beaches as its rich history, so there is really something for everyone. The lovely modern family friendly resort of Sealife is within easy walking distance from the stunning long sandy beach. Near the supermarket there is a subway which takes you directly onto the promenade and the beach itself. As the sun sets, a wealth of traditional Turkish music shows can be experienced, and travellers can rest in the knowledge that North Cyprus is virtually a crime-free. The apartments are all spacious two bedroom units only 2 years old and finished in a contemporary style. There is a fully equipped kitchen which includes a dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. There is an open plan living/dining area with patio doors that lead on to a balcony with outdoor table and chairs. All floors are accessed by a lift and there are no steps within the apartments. There is one family showeroom. The units all sleep 4 although 5 people could be accommodated with agreement from the resort. On site there is a large outdoor swimming pool with water slide, a childrens playground and basket ball court, bar and snack bar. The beach is less than 5 mins walk.
