With towns dating back to the American Revolution and President Lincoln, Kentucky’s story is steeped in history. Considered to be the founder of Kentucky, visitors can immerse themselves in the trail of the explorer, Daniel Boone, following the frontiers of the pioneer through the Cumberland Gap National Park and even witnessing a re-enactment of the Civil War’s Battle of Barbourville.

Bourbon has put the Bluegrass State on the map, however Kentucky also holds its own when it comes to food and wine. Some local southern delicacies should make your must-try list, including Kentucky barbecue, the Hot Brown sandwich and, of course, fried chicken at Colonel Sander’s first restaurant, located in Corbin in the Appalachian Mountains.

It’s not all Bourbon and Boone. Separating Kentucky’s distinct regions are rolling hills and horse country, waterlands and wilderness, with endless natural attractions to explore. You’ll even find the world’s longest cave system in the Mammoth Cave National Park – at over 300 miles long.
