White sand beaches, bungalows and luxury resorts – Thailand’s Koh Samui, or Samui Island, is the true definition of paradise.
It’s hard to go past Koh Samui’s biggest attraction as the main reason to visit this spectacular island just off the east coast of Thailand. The beaches here are diverse yet all equally appealing – from bustling Chaweng Beach to the peaceful Mae Nam. No matter which beach you visit, you’ll be greeted with soft sand, coconut palms and calm, warm water to dive into the crystal-clear sea.
Beyond the beaches there is so much to see and do, including the Na Muang waterfalls and the Secret Buddha Garden tucked away in the island’s central interior. Koh Samui’s famous Big Buddha is a must-see – a giant 12 metre gold Buddha statue that can be seen for miles, while the Na Thon Night Food Market is well worth a visit for some of the island’s best street food eats.
In fact, Koh Samui’s food scene is as welcoming as its beaches. The scent of southern Thai–style curries from the street side stalls is hard to pass up, or you can dine out at trendy restaurants in Fisherman’s Village in historic Bophut. As well as traditional Thai food, Koh Samui also offers a range of international cuisine from Indian to Italian and French, along with some of the best food with a view, featuring restaurants situated over rocks and in treetops for a unique dining experience.
